Let’s start with some history in this subject. In the 1970s initial patents for glyphosate were coming out from Monsanto which actually bought the chemical patent from a Japanese researcher who had formed this man made chemical back in 1959. And with those initial patents, they showed us the mechanism of action which is to disrupt an important enzyme pathway in bacteria, fungi and plants. And it was argued back then that it “must” be safe for humans because we don’t have that enzyme pathway that was supposed to be the primary mechanism of action of this chemical. What we failed back then was to dig deeper on what does that enzyme pathway did indirectly for humans? And it turns out that that enzyme pathway produces the critical amino acids and contributes to the medicinal quality of our food. We call them critical amino acids because we can’t make them. So we rely on our food to deliver those via the bacteria the fungi in the plants themselves to get this building blocks for proteins in our body. The 230,000 proteins in our body can be made from these scant 20 some amino acids. However if you suddenly block that food chain from producing these building blocks we end up missing these critical essential amino acids. The concern here is that as we delete out these critical building blocks we start to even in utero build bodies that are misspelling proteins, which leads to misfiled proteins. So that only means that the enzymes that would be coming out of that protein structure may be dysfunctional or not at their optimal rate of capacity for repair or detoxification. So you end up really building the whole staging of the body with a weakened system.
In the last decade there has been this explosion of data around the microbiome. And this microbiome is supposed to describe bacteria, fungi, parasites in an ecosystem that is in a cooperative relationship to build the foundation of life. And you know that that microbiome constantly under attack from an antibiotic world. What’s interesting here is that glyphosate and roundup were not patented as weed killers but as antibiotics. So now we realized that we’ve been pouring antibiotics into our soil and water systems for the last 40 years at an ever increasing rate. Yep! The sad part of this is that we’ve doubled the amount of roundup sprayed over global soils about every six years since 1976. The steepest climb in that was around 1996 to 2006.
So what happens with this chemical is that it could wipe out the microbiome of the soils, which of course is what delivers the nutrients and the medicines that would become our food based medicinal complex. And so now for over the last 20 years we see an increase of chronic disease epidemics in our children. Autism, ADHD, allergies, asthma. And in the adult population we are seeing an explosion of anxiety disorders all the way to Alzheimer’s to dementia.
The Toxicity of Glyphosate in the Human Body.
Let's start by explaining how our bodies become toxic in the first place. Well we become toxic when we lose the boundaries that protect our body. The human body as well as any multicellular organism is designed with very good engineering to keep the outside world out and to keep the inside world in. Then our wonderful body builds an immune system that understands the difference between outside and inside such that if you ever got a little bit of the outside in, we will be able to defend and attack it immediately and would never cause any threat to the internal environment. What we just described here is called self identity at the biologic level. In humans our largest barrier that would become our definition of where our self identity ends is our gut boundary.
The intestinal boundary between the lumen of our gut where we put all of our food and water and our whole microbiome is dominantly represented from our sinuses all the way down to our colon. This microbiome ecosystem that we already discussed lives within this tube and this tube or velcro is supposed to be our boundary that protects us from the outside. But it turns out that in his own research Dr. Zach Bush’s worked really hard to understand the relationship of glyphosate, this roundup chemical and its relationship to that barrier. And oddly enough the very first thing that this chemical does directly to the human body is that it destroys the velcro that holds the cell barrier together and what Dr. Zach Bush calls “tight junctions”. This tight junctions look a lot like a velcro (using an electro microscopy). They can tear apart like velcro, and then big stuff can pass through and then they can zipper back up and protect you again. Woow! I know right our body is amazing. So they are designed to be this intelligent gatekeeper of material from outside to inside. Sitting right behind the tight junctions is some 80% of our immune system’s antibody production mechanism where we would produce antibodies to fight against the outside world. And so glyphosate first undermines the microbiome not just from our soils (as soon as it gets to it due to its water solubility as a chemical) which means getting into water systems but its also getting into the water of your tomatoes, onions, potatoes and so you eat any root vegetable or cruciferous vegetables (cauliflower, cabbage, kale, garden cress, broccoli),or a fruit from the apple tree its going to be integrated into the water of that fruit or vegetable and you are going to take that in. And now that chemical is going to do the same microbiome damage in your gut. So you are losing diversity and and workforce in the microbiome of the intelligence of the gut.
So let's sum up this whole thing about the damage that Glyphosate Roundup cause to our health. So step one of glyphosate Roundup harm, they wipe out the microbiome, step two they erode our self identity by destroying the Velcro and now that intelligent barrier system becomes a leaky sieve which means that every food you take every bite you take, you are going to have to deal with not only the bad stuff right there but also with all the macro nutrients in an unprocessed fashion. You can no longer regulate the intake of macro nutrients, fiber and its result is going to end up in inflammation. You see now how the active ingredient in pesticides is able to harm our body. For this reason is really important for us to be conscious about what we eat and be in charge of our own health. Let’s start creating the world we want by demanding action, buying local or even planting our own fruits and veggies if you can. Our health is our responsibility. Remember:
